Further wave of homes planned for Bonnington
The WBG Partnership has submitted plans for a brownfield residential development of 80 apartments at West Bowling Green Street, Edinburgh, drawn up by EMA.

Forming part of a wider masterplan for the area the six storey apartment block will be faced in white and buff brick with repeated elements designed to echo the mills, foundries and warehouses once found locally.

In a supporting statement EMA declared: “The proposals will create high quality positive street frontages and, when taken within its wider framework, will ensure permeability and encourage social interaction. The massing and urban form is appropriate, and in keeping with adjoining development which are approved or encouraged in the future.”

Hundreds of new homes are planned for the former industrial area, most recently a 214 home scheme also drawn up by EMA.

I generally welcome the transformation of this rather grim winswept area into housing. I just wish the designs were a bit more inspired. I like brick and all that, but a box boring box is just that, whatever you clad it in.
