Fountainbridge student housing clears planning
City of Edinburgh Council have granted planning permission to a £41m post-graduate student housing build at Fountainbridge offering 261 self-contained studios, communal space, cinema and gym.

Designed by Michael laird Architects the scheme will include ground floor retail and leisure uses and forms part of a wider masterplan for the canalside quarter that includes new shops, office space and homes.

Ken Knott, chief development officer of Select Property Group, said: “After 18 months of working with the city’s planners, we’re delighted they now truly understand our award winning Vita Student product and its unique position in the market.”

The plans have been drawn up for Vita Student and occupies the site of an Edwardian Cinema, latterly used as a bingo hall.

Yes Ken because that's what the democratic planning system is all about - making the planners 'truly understand' your 'product' and its 'unique position in the market'. As opposed to their working hard with you for 18 months to make your proposals acceptable for the rest of the population who have to live with them.

Does this not ride another horse and cart through City of Edinburgh Council student housing planning density guidance. A completely useless (and clearly irrelevant) planning policy.
I assume the students don't get the floor to ceiling glass penthouses? Maybe they do?
