£11.5m Trump Turnberry revamp gets underway
Construction services firm ISG has been appointed to refurbish and remodel all 103 bedrooms and public spaces within the famous Trump Turnberry golf resort, to designs by 3DReid Architects.

The work will see a new ballroom with a capacity of 500 and stretching to 6,000sq/ft, which has been ‘…sympathetically designed to blend seamlessly with the original architecture’ of the 109 year old hotel.

Other improvements will see windows replaced and repair work carried out to roofs and dormers as well as the renewal of all render.

Eric Trump, executive vice president of development and acquisitions for The Trump Organization said: “My father and I have assembled a world-class team consisting of the best architects, contractors and restoration specialists. When completed, Trump Turnberry will be the most luxurious hotel anywhere in the UK and beyond. Having already completed vast renovations to the magnificent golf clubhouse and select public areas, we are thrilled to move into the second phase of our major renovation.”

US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has pledged to transform Turnberry into Europe’s ‘finest’ hotel amidst stalled work to develop the Menie estate.

'My father and I' - this somewhat messianic quote says it all really. The mind boggles. Truly terrifying. and do 3DReid bat an eye? Nope. In the world of commercial architecture, only the almighty dolla speak.

So the obvious question is can architects work ethically for any two-bit gangster? It would appear so. I'm sure you'll find it in the club codes of practice/conduct.

#1 I've not met the Trumps, but from what I've seen via the general media outlets, I'm no fan. I'm marginally interested to know though, what evidence are you referring to, when you state that they are 'two-bit gangsters'? Sure, if that was the case, they would be the wrong side of the bars and not refurbishing much at all. Your attack on the integrity of 3DReid is strange - why only focus on the architect and not the contractor or DT? From memory 3DReid's involvement in the building transcends the Trumps;

Dear Trombe Wall,

'Two-bit gangster' was the most polite thing I could say, as I know how easily delicate souls out there can take offence. Hows about the phrase, 'tyranical megalomaniac', then? - It more or less amounts to the same thing.

'Wrong side of the bars'? Ah yes, I forgot, the judicial facet of that exemplary model of the w.a.s.p. 'free-world'?

I wasn't aware I had 'attacked' 3DReid's 'integrity'. Like any other sane-thinking organisation, they probably would prefer their client not to be a man who's completely detached from reality, and yet actions do speak louder than we'll-just-have-to-grin-and-bear-it-but-just-give us-the-money-anyway approach.

I don't think this forum is the place for a roll-call of the Trump organisation's sins (there is limitless access to such information), but what about the ethics of being in such an organisation's pay-roll, that's what I am asking?

It just doesn't sit too happily with the genteel nature of the club rules. Not quite cricket is it? Not quite one of us, darling. Or, not quite who we'd like to think we are, maybe?

My guess is that neither Trump or 3DReid give 2 hoots to what internet trolls say.

Dear Noddy,

Of course I agree 100% with you regarding DT and 3DReid, but interestingly, you gave two hoots enough to make a comment, which is what real discussion is about. Readers can draw their own conclusions from your input. Why would you wish to tediously stifle discussion and not see a range of differing opinion being stated?

Please let me assure you, my comments are always sincerely felt about whatever the subject matter is, however wide of a consensus they may appear to be. Also, I have absolutely no interest in 'trolling' whatsoever as you suggest. For your interest:

In Internet slang, a troll (/?tro?l/, /?tr?l/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion,[3] often for their own amusement.

This, it would seem, applies to your bullying name-calling.

Lama - That is one of the most pathetically (but amusingly) stereotypical troll style responses.

Of course he will, and I am sure, has.
Did you think that the check-in procedure includes assessing your religion, if any?
This is a business, Lutz. And a good business tries to find a way to serve you, *not* a way not to serve you.
