The cash will go toward the second phase of the art school’s campus redevelopment plan, following delivery of the Reid Building, which entails demolition of the Richmond Building to make way for a 4,300sq/m new build.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Games Business Summit in Glasgow chancellor George Osborne said: “Today (we are) making an additional £5m contribution to support the School’s new Graduate and Research Centre, protecting the school’s strong heritage and equipping it for the future at the forefront of Scotland’s creative industries and an institution secure in its position of world renown.”
No move toward setting up an architectural competition has been made at this stage, with construction work not expected to get underway until 2016.
