Forth Bridge World Heritage photo competition launched
Historic Scotland has launched a competition for photographers to snap the Forth Bridge in support of its nomination as a World Heritage Site.

Running from 10 August to 30 September the competition invites submission of digital images of the iconic structure for a chance to win a private tour of the engineering feat.

A nomination dossier is currently being compiled by the heritage body, illustrating how the bridge would be managed should its bid be successful, requiring an assessment of the best views and vantage points to appreciate the structure.

As such it is hoped the competition will help eke out some lesser known viewpoints which can be identified and protected by the planning process.

Miles Oglethorpe, head of industrial heritage at Historic Scotland, whose team is preparing the nomination bid said: “No matter how often you see the Forth Bridge, you never tire of it, with its breath-taking scale and elegance.

“It’s an irresistible attraction to anyone with a camera.  We are hoping that as many people as possible will put some thought into identifying their favourite views and then capture them for the competition.  Weather and light conditions will also play their part, so we are looking forward to seeing some artistic contributions too. “
A public consultation on the bid is due to close on Sunday
