Collective unveil Easterhouse wall mural
Collective Architecture in collaboration with visual artist Alex Frost have unveiled The New Easterhouse Mosaic, a 25m long artwork adorning the Platform Arts Centre.

Commissioned by the Centre and Glasgow School of Art the piece was inspired by the Easterhouse Mosaic, a 1980s piece created by the local community, and involved the installation of 600 mosaic panels.

These were manufactured off site and applied using a mixture of old and new mosaic techniques.

In a statement Collective Architecture said: “Alex Frost’s explorations of drawing and sculpture engage with both handmade processes and technological schema. He contradicts the over familiarity of logos and brand identities of consumer products related to technology by using them as repeated motifs rendered in low-fi materials.”

Why is there a candlestick in the mosaic?

It is an optical illusion. You see a candlestick and 2 faces looking at each other in one pic.

I see a chimney.

The chimney belongs to the building next door (a police station) and not to the mosaic mural.

It is an optical illusion. You can see the chimney and you thinks its part of the police station and it is actually in the mosaic mural.

What chimney? I see a brick candle coming out of the candlestick.

You both need glasses. The chimney belongs to the police station behind the mural. It is very clear for every picture.

The wee boy in the blue jacket- now that is still a really great optical illusion. He looks so real. I'd swear he was really there.

Thinking about this...this is not a mosaic. Mosaic should be small pieces of glass/terracotta etc and this wall is constructed with large pieces, ergo not a mosaic! Glasgow school of Art should have known better.
