Construction to commence at Alexandria Centre
The Scottish Government has approved funding for a £21m community health centre at the Vale of Leven Hospital, paving the way for construction to commence.

Scheduled to open in summer 2013 the Alexandria Centre will incorporate three GP surgeries, a dental unit, teaching facilities and a range of NHS services including physiotherapy, podiatry and speech therapy.

Designed by Archial, in conjunction with external contractors Turner & Townsend and Laing O’Rourke, the building is designed as a series of ‘spokes’ radiating from a central reception space, with the spaces between landscaped.

In their design statement Archial state: “Internally fully glazed screens open up views between the wings to the garden spaces and landscape beyond (including for the waiting areas). The radiating wings maximise the views and opportunity for daylight within all of Centre’s the rooms.

“Storage spaces are maximized in the accessible roof spaces, thus reducing clutter within the main space of the building. The whole building is design to be able to open in sections (with security measure to suit), allowing some or of all of the building to operate out of hours.”
