Assembly Halls refurb receives funding boost
Edinburgh City Council and LDN Architects refurbishment of Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms has received a timely boost with the allocation of a £441k Heritage Lottery fund grant.

The award will help bankroll plans to upgrade the venue for the 21st century, introducing top end facilities all year round, including the city’s summer festivals.

Colin McLean, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund in Scotland, said: "This beautiful venue has its roots in Edinburgh's social, architectural and cultural history. The refurbishment will allow it to sparkle once again for the benefit of residents and visitors to the city for many years to come."

Contractors Balfour Beattie are currently on site at the the A listed events venue thanks to funding from Historic Scotland and the Scottish Government.

The venue is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
