Great Scott. LDN reveal Abbotsford House proposals
Trustees of Abbotsford House, headed by the Duke of Buccleuch, are backing a £10m transformation of the Borders home of Sir Walter Scott, Abbotsford House near Melrose.

The 19th Century pile will be fully restored and a striking shop, café and reception building built in its grounds. Designed by LDN architects the extension is designed to blend with the surrounding landscape.

Self catering accommodation, interpretation facilities and an education suite will be built into the fabric of the mansion in a bid to boost dwindling visitor numbers.

Funding has been secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Scottish Borders Council, allowing work to proceed later this year – subject to planning approval.

A community consultation process will take place over the coming weeks.
