Built for Drumchapel Women’s Aid the centre provides eight self-contained flats with a kitchen/lounge and shared facilities including a crèche, laundry, outdoor play area, health suite and consultation rooms.
Over a decade in gestation the project has steadily grown from a self build community project into today’s scheme delivered by Cairn Housing Association.
Acoustic walls and considered orientation are provided by the design to mitigate noise intrusion from an adjacent railway line and shield residents from an electricity substation.
Communal facilities are located to the rear of the building to imbue a sensation of safety amongst residents whilst staff areas are oriented toward an austere front, granting clear visibility to points of access.
