SDA nominations unveiled
Nominations for the Scottish Design Awards (SDA) 2009 have been revealed at an official launch shindig at the Old Fruitmarket, Candleriggs, viewable here in full.

Scotland's largest architecture and design bash witnessed hordes of industry professionals descending upon the Merchant City venue, each eager to discover if their individual creations had passed muster with our scrupulous judging panel.

Of the general calibre of this years entries Gordon Young, editor of Prospect Magazine said:  "The quality of this years entries posed a real quandry for the judges. Despite the credit crunch some great work has been done in Scotland recently. As well as being put forward for a Scottish Design Awards all these nominees will also feature in the Scottish Architecture Annual, meaning that to a certain extent at least, they are all winners already."

This year an extra special bonus was on display with five extraordinary LEGO villas, each sculpted in exquisite detail, proudly taking centre stage to much admiration from thronged revellers.  Many attendees reflected wistfully upon the care free days of their youth spent mucking about with the bold building blocks, citing it as a key factor in opening the creative floodgates at an impressionable age.

An evening of fun and frolic duly ensued lubricated by copious quaffing of alcohol, buckets of LEGO and of course Scotland's finest architectural accomplishments, a heady concoction that was always certain to leap to the fore of any design aficionados social calendar.

The nominations event paves the way for a grand finale to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow, on May 29th when the ultimate winners will finally be revealed.   Bookings can be made by downloading a booking form or by contacting Kimberley Baran on 0141 559 6078 or email kim.baran@carnyx.com.
