Liverpool’s Royal flush
Alfred Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) have won a design competition to refurbish Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre

The AHMM team beat off stiff competition from Burrell Foley Fischer, Nord, Pentagram, Studio Andrew Todd and Studio Three Architects to secure the £10 million contract for renewal of the 71-year-old building.

AHMM propose to provide an enhanced entrance space replete with digital glazed screen and greater capacity.  A rooftop restaurant and bar will crown the art deco property with stylish illuminations.

Remodelled interiors will provide an enhanced environment for patrons of the Royal;s bar between performances.

Paul Monaghan, director at AHMM, explained: “The main idea was to take the best of the old building, which is a beautiful old theatre, and add contemporary elements to it so that the new complements the old.”
