Jedburgh pilot establishes garage-to-homes template

A garages-to-homes initiative in the Scottish Borders is transforming disused spaces into desperately needed new housing, the first initiative of its kind in Scotland.

Scottish Borders Housing Association has spearheaded the project, inviting housing providers from across the country to the launch event at Butler Court, where four accessible and energy-efficient bungalows were unveiled.

The project architect is Russell Edwards of Edwards Architecture, working with garage-to-home regeneration specialist HUSK, which provides each home with air source heat pumps, PV solar panels, a fire suppression system, and A-rated EPCs.

Russell Edwards, managing director of HUSK, commented: “The Garages to Homes model allows us to reuse existing structures in a sustainable way, providing high-quality living spaces while reducing waste and construction time.”

Butler Court is soon to be joined by another three homes on two separate sites on Lothian Road and a further six homes in Hawick.

Holey moley, that is like something my dad would have done with offcuts left in the garage.
