The Scottish Design Awards 2025 has celebrated the nation's architecture and design communities with a flood of awards on a night of drama.

The record-breaking show married quantity and quality at Glasgow's Hilton Doubletree hotel, where dozens of winners shared the limelight with their peers to bask in well-deserved recognition.

It was a big ask, but our design and architecture judging panels rose to the occasion with an eclectic and striking collection of design greats. From an ‘architect’s dream’ on the Rosneath Peninsula to a new model of affordable housing in Dumfries that could herald a new approach for struggling town centres, the awards span every corner of the country from bustling urbanity to remote coves.

Lauding all who participated, Tony Kettle, design principal at Kettle Collective, commented: “The general level of entries was very high and a credit to what Scottish architects and designers have to offer. It made the judging very difficult and we looked for projects that were exemplary in their category and will hopefully inspire future projects. A key challenge for all the projects was the need to meet sustainability targets and it was interesting to see solutions where this was seamlessly integrated.”

Representing the design judging panel, Cat Leaver, director of strategy and competitive intelligence at VisitScotland, added: "The volume and quality of design entries submitted this year made judging an absolute joy. Each project showcased unique creativity and innovation, but many also demonstrated a depth of user experience understanding and a real focus on driving impact. The standard of work submitted is a testament to the breadth of talent across Scotland’s creative industry."

It's obvious how diverse people's interpretation of the words 'design riches' is.
