Perth charity pivots to the city centre for a new care hub

A charity dedicated to supporting people with complex needs has alighted on a new site in Perth city centre for a landmark care project.

Capability Scotland has settled on a prominent spot at Glover Street after discounting its initial choice of Bertha Park for the purpose-built care centre. Replacing outdated facilities at Upper Springland on the outskirts of town the new hub is to be designed by Anderson Bell + Christie.

Citing escalating costs and logistical challenges for the switch the charity has partnered with Perth & Kinross Council to deliver the project on public land.

Brian Logan, chief executive of Capability Scotland, said: “This is a positive and progressive decision by Perth & Kinross Council and we wholeheartedly welcome it.

"Our priority has been to secure a location that ensures long-term safety, accessibility and quality of life for everyone we support, their families, our staff and the wider community."

The charity is now pursuing a formal agreement with Perth & Kinross Council to develop the site, with Our Inclusive Community Project (OICP) completing by 2028.
