Conservation work to transport a farm built by Robert Burns back to 1788
June 23 2025
A historic farm, designed and built by Robert Burns in 1788, is to be reinvigorated in a major conservation programme.
The Robert Burns Ellisland Trust has appointed Collective Architecture to restore the A-listed Ellisland Farm to its original condition by removing modern alterations and reversing historic damage. In the process rundown farm buildings will be turned into an immersive experience for visitors, replacing earlier plans for a newly built attraction.
Emma Fairhurst of Collective Architecture commented: “It is a privilege to be appointed to lead the design team for Ellisland Farm, a site of deep historical and cultural value. We look forward to working closely with The Robert Burns Ellisland Trust to restore and enhance this remarkable place, ensuring its legacy is preserved and celebrated for generations to come.”
When complete the farmstead will house a museum collection with ancillary structures serving as events and education spaces.
