Timber pavilion to foster community spirit in Adler

A public green in Ardler, Perth & Kinross, is to be given enhanced amenities under proposals to erect a new community pavilion.

Meigle and Ardler Community Development Trust has engaged Kennedy Twaddle Architects for the simple centrepiece of the 0.12-hectare space.

In a statement, the architects wrote: "Located in the heart of Ardler Village on public green space, the proposed Community Pavilion will serve as meeting point for residents and visitors. The proposed living roof will enhance local biodiversity and provide shelter from the elements, enhancing the functionality and ecological value of the area."

Spanning a 6x8m paved area the timber structure will rest on steel supports, holding up a metal clad green roof suitable for gatherings and events. Ardler, near Coupar Angus, is home to around 200 residents.

As good as it is to see any investment in rural villages, isn't this just an oversized bus shelter in a grassy park? Although much more expensive, wouldn't a village hall refurb, changing rooms for playing fields, new public toilets or whatever have been more useful.
