Outdoor adventure hub to activate Twechar
May 20 2025
A £5.6m outdoor adventure centre has taken shape on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal as a base for outdoor pursuits, learning and activities.
Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Centre will be operated by Twechar Community Action and will provide educational, training and volunteer opportunities in a priority regeneration area.
Delivered by Morgan Sindall, AtkinsRéalis and Doig+Smith on behalf of East Dunbartonshire Council, the facility includes a seminar room, bicycle workshop and roof-mounted solar panels. Located off Main Street on the northern approach to the town the facility replaces a previously derelict site.
Claire Nelson, regional director – project management for AtkinsRéalis, said: "This project not only fosters regeneration in the area, but also embodies the principles of social inclusion, adaptability and educational training."
The centre will open to the public later this summer.
