Dundee FC flesh out plans for a compact Camperdown home

Plans to build a new home for Dundee Football Club have been fleshed out in the form of an illustrative masterplan governing the delivery of a 12,500-capacity stadium.

Holmes Miller with LJRH has been working with the club to develop the key design principles and concepts behind the mixed-use development, which will also include housing, a crematorium, a hotel and other leisure uses.

Located on the northwestern fringe of the city the net-zero stadium will explore the potential for waste heat capture from a nearby ice rink and the potential for on-site battery energy storage.

In their masterplan statement, Holmes Miller provided an update on their evolving stadium strategy, which includes an expanded public plaza: "A revised and rotated footprint reflects the scale and accommodation within - and the main stand is oriented to face southwards.

"The main stand will be a prominent element of the stadium design, the main entrance and a facade of civic presence with a strong identity."

An inflected facade will be employed to provide civic presence from the busy Kingsway.

A modern crematorium will be positioned to the southern edge of the site

why are there so few parked cars when the stadium's full?

Shame that down town Dundee doesn't replicate the Nokia Arena in Tampere as shared stadium with United

A big souless stadium on the outskirts of town taking over a public park, they should be made to upgrade the existing dens park. It would be a shame to lose the closest stadiums in the UK title, how does this fit in with the councils net zero terget.

They should be pooling resources with Dundee Utd to build something bigger and better, that is more of an asset for the entire city of Dundee. If it's good enough for Inter and AC Milan... ?

#2 - The proposals aren't located in Camperdown Park, but on scrubland that was part of the NCR Camperdown factory that became a textile plant, then closed 20 or more years ago. It's a brownfield site.

Agreed about net zero and so forth, but you wouldn't want to live near the football stadia when a match is on – all the streets between Dens Road and Clepington Road are choked with cars. Once upon a time, Moncur Crescent was served by Dundee's tram system…

Looks like more car spaces for the ice rink than the stadium and how are they getting to access a major trunk road without a new junction. And how are they getting training pitches on the park which is owned by the people of Dundee and not just Dundee fans. And why is the ice rink part of the site/plans as this is owned by the council and represents the people and not just Dundee fans.

A good chunk of away fans likely take the train to Dens park. What are the public transport links to Camperdown like?

#3 - AC and Inter are in the process of developing separate stadiums in different parts of the city.

Compared to Dens it'll be harder for fans to get there via public transport. All those arriving by train will have to get a bus or taxi. Not great. Walking from town will take a good hour plus change. Driving to the stadium? Car parking looks limited. Will fans descend on the residential areas accross the way instead and use the underpass to access the stadium?

After all is said I think this is a positive move for Dundee FC. I wish DUFC would join the party though, the Dundee clubs should be joining their not entirely significant forces to de-risk and make a better community facility. It makes so much sense. How long before Tannadice falls into extreme disrepair like Dens currently is?

Why are people desperate for Dundee and united to share? Shared stadiums are terrible, and the pitch would be a tattie field by October in Scotland. Also the Milan/inter nonsense that gets trotted out all the time doesn't even work, they are both building their own stadiums as we speak.
The transport links here are non-existent, matchdays will have the Kingsway backed up to the swallow roundabout or worse on current plans and incorporating other public assets that arent for just for Dundee FC like the ice rink will cause bother. Like ot or not, football is tribal and the council can't put a penny into this, most people in Dundee don't support Dundee (United and the OF, non-football fans).

It's never happening !!!
Where are all the celtic/rangers supporters buses going to be parked...
No buses go near camperdown after 3.15 each way....
Why would the council agree to another hotel in the area when there is already a Premier Inn nearby!!!!
When are we going to stop hearing about a new park for dundee fc...
I am sure this park was going to be opened by 2024/25 season,oh well they can dream!!

In their masterplan statement, Holmes Miller stated that they had created a potion that turned terrible home footballing displays in to hard cash. DFC are said to be buzzin'

Some people are living in the dark ages…..look at the modern arena across the globe, this development idea is a no brainer. Most stadia in Scotland are horror shows. Good for Dundee FC and the respective partners leading the way. Next step is summer Football, ????????

Arabs are out in force in this comment section. Dundee FC high-flying in the premierleague while United wallow in the Seaside leagues riddled with debt.

#15 - You surely don't mean that all the negative comments are being posted supporters of another team, who aren't performing as well as Dundee FC are? Partisan opinions have no place in discussions about Scottish football stadia: let's leave the petty and uninformed comments to Stuart and Tam. ;-)

Not a supporter of either club, but these negative comments are jarring. If you are a Dundee FC fan, then why so much negativity? Or is this just United fans trolling? Dens Park is surely up there with the worst stadium in Scotland. Any move I can see, is a positive one. I'm sure more fans (especially away) would want to go to a nice new stadium than what's currently on offer.

A lot of comments saying this is not going to happen and its not feasible for the area. Why is that then? Remove your own personal opinion out of the equation. There are a multitude of reports done by professional consultants that can prove that it is.

The D+A statement justifies and explains why the upgrading of Dens Park is unfeasible also...

Negativity for negativities sake from people. This is why we can't have good things.
