Hotel application sees SWG3 hit new heights

Detailed plans for a high-rise hotel at Yorkhill have been finalised with the submission of a formal planning application.

Events venue SWG3 is to punctuate the Clydeside skyline with a 142-bed venue at the corner of Eastvale Place and Sandyford Street, including co-working spaces, a gym, a 'movement studio' and a rooftop terrace.

Occupying a former industrial yard the accommodation augments the growing cultural campus with an emphasis on design and music to elevate it above the competition.

Paul Stallan, design director at Stallan-Brand, said: "Whilst the SWG3 Hotel is strategically situated to support the immediate regeneration initiative the hotel will also contribute to the ongoing success of Glasgow's 'Hydro Effect' which has seen the city become a global magnet for major music and conference events. As a 'hotel for music lovers', the SWG3 team are excited to expand their programme with a new leisure offer that will ensure they remain more visible, vital and circular."

SWG3 founding partners Andrew Fleming-Brown and Andrew Mickel, are driving the project in partnership with hotelier Bruce Robertson.

Looks great. Planners will approve it (eventually) and then it will be knocked back by councillors...Merry Christmas

Whisper it........but there's little chance of this attracting funding.

Strange on a number of fronts.

Small plot but a very substantial development.
Making the most of the limited resources available?
The SWG3 crew would not appear to be into flights of fancy but it is big.
Cheap build vibe -- utilitarian / container city look / angular.
Stalking horse for another project / use -- shaking the tree and seeing what local objections come to the fore?

Hope it gets built -- as a hotel -- shows a bit of ambition.

If only it could be replicated in the Barras.

The demolition of old Queen Mums hospital scheduled for Jul/Aug 24 and rest of Yorkhill NHS campus being decommissioned in phases thereafter… apart from the donated bequeathed land, the rest will pop up student flats quicker than you can say MalaysianStudentFees
