Denny cottage rebuild to hug the landscape

A heavily altered sandstone cottage on the rural outskirts of Denny is to be demolished and replaced by a modern energy-efficient home within its grounds.

Set into the sloping site the replacement property will take advantage of open southerly aspects without imposing on the 0.4 acre site despite a slightly larger built footprint.

Care will also be taken to reuse sandstone downtakings, fused with glass and timber to create a contemporary aesthetic that is grounded in its context.

In a design statement S2 Architecture wrote: "With the existing levels on the site, there is an opportunity to set the house into the landscape so as not to dominate. With this, the house can step down into the slope allowing the front of the house and main living areas to take advantage of the spectacular views without building up to achieve this."

Already approved by Falkirk Council the work will get underway shortly.

rather nice! let's hope that future owners don't extend in a similar way to the existing property
