Inverness sprawls further south as Slackbuie is built out

Plans for a mix of 105 homes, including the voluntary provision of seven affordable properties, have been brought forward for the latest parcel of land to be developed on the southern outskirts of Inverness.

Tulloch Homes with Bracewell Stirling Consulting proposes a range of houses and apartments for the final phase of a Cooper Cromar masterplan for the suburb of Slackbuie. Covering 5.8 acres the land is constrained by a flood relief channel to the northwest and incorporates an electricity substation to cater for increased energy demand.

In a design statement Bracewell Stirling wrote: "To take advantage of this unique setting which includes views across Inverness and a woodland backdrop, a mixture of high-quality house types are proposed. Larger houses within a more generous plot size are considered to be more appropriate for this setting and will allow for a more sympathetic approach when considering the integration of housing and flats in this area."

Access is provided by a closed loop road piggybacking off the recent Earl's Gate housing development with a stone wall 'gateway feature' to help lend it an identity.

Just look at the imagination that has gone into designing these houses. Tulloch Homes really do represent the talent Scottish house builders have.

James Hepburn: for Tulloch this is actually at least half, no in fact let's be clear - quarter - decent. Could be considerably worse given their track record.
