8,500-capacity arena to establish Edinburgh Park's cultural credentials

Edinburgh Park is set for further diversification with an imminent public consultation to set out plans for an 8,500-capacity arena.

Parabola, owner and developer of the edge of town district, has committed to selling land opposite a Premier Inn to AEG, owners of The O2, to create the 18,500sq/m concert and event space. Reaching 30.5m in height the arena would rise 11m taller than the hotel.

Peter Millican OBE, chairman and founder of Parabola said: "This investment will complement all that is on offer at Edinburgh Park and ensure that the arts and culture has an outstanding live performance facility. The new Edinburgh Arena will put west Edinburgh on the map as a new cultural destination."

Edinburgh Park has been shedding its image as an office campus through an increased focus on residential and cultural development in recent years.

A project team including HOK, Buro Happold and Atelier Ten has been assembled with a first consultation scheduled for 4 December.
