Parkland Hub helps heal the industrial legacy of the Garnock Valley

A £4.2m community facility has risen at Kilbirnie Loch in the heart of North Ayrshire's Garnock Valley to help improve standards of health and wellbeing.

Lochshore Park Hub serves as an outdoor activities centre and visitor attraction for Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, providing a recreational focus for the broader area.

Taking the form of two parallel pavilions resting on a robust lower plinth of textured concrete the two elements are joined by a glazed link and share a common entrance courtyard. Available facilities include a cafe, community room and flexible spaces for meetings, workshops and training, promoting education and greater community cohesion in the process.

Overlooking Garnock rugby pitches the hub takes advantage of local topography to tuck changing rooms and services underneath, maintaining level access to the loch while accommodating shared communal facilities and the main entrance above.

Jonita Kariblikova, project architect for Collective Architecture said: "The building offers a warm, refined welcome for visitors and locals alike, providing a base for outdoor activities and events within the parkland."

Reflecting the area's industrial heritage the pavilions are clad in ribbed metal with a large recess for rest and shelter.

Looks like a great project, though the black cladding looks depressing. Fingers crossed it might get a more colourful repaint at somepoint in its future.
