Brownfield Cardonald site earmarked for social housing

A brownfield site in Cardonald is to spring back to life at the hands of the Wheatley Group with the submission of plans for 29 homes.

The social landlord has enlisted Anderson Bell + Christie to develop plans for 60 Forfar Avenue, last occupied by a care home, maintaining existing access arrangements.

Discussions with planners have seen a 2021 application updated to remove all exclusively north-facing single-aspect flats (although five single-aspect flats remain) and ensure the majority of ground floor flats have patio access, resulting in a significant redesign.

Outlining the current design strategy the architects wrote: "The sawtooth roof design is an important feature for the east elevation where the building faces onto the street. Gabled elevations allow the facade to be broken down and reduce the impact on the streetscape."

Significant constraints limit the buildability of the site including a sewer and a busy railway line to the site's southern edge.
