Social housing push to rejuvenate a former Perth hospital

Land at a former hospital on Dundee Road in Perth is set to provide much-needed new homes under plans prepared by social housing provider First Endeavour.

The Aberdeen-based developer is spreading its wings south to the former Hillside Hospital, where it proposes to create 72 social and mid-market rent apartments spread across five separate blocks, conceived as large villas in the landscape by Yeoman McAllister.

Situated a short walk from the city centre above the River Tay the homes are arranged around a snaking new access road, which opens up the challenging terrain for development.

Establishing a strong frontage to Dundee Road the buildings are set behind a retained stone wall. Setting out their design response the architects said: "Where the road is to be widened to achieve the new access the wall will be removed and replaced with a new boundary treatment in the form of a lower wall and hedging. This should help to create a more pleasant and welcoming environment for the new development from the road.

"The design also creates a more positive frontage along the riverside with improved connections and the incorporation of balconies and terraces."

All properties will be managed by Hillcrest Homes.
