Glasgow signals the end of a dangerous Pollok roundabout

Glasgow City Council is to host an information day on 10 August to outline its proposals to redesign Pollok Roundabout to alleviate congestion.

The traffic-choked 5-arm artery has been the scene of 46 accidents in the past decade, including two fatalities, prompting moves to introduce a signalled junction to improve safety.

To achieve this the existing roundabout at the intersection of Peat and Barrhead Roads will be replaced with a twin junction, balancing access from competing approach roads and providing clear crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists.

The road reorganisation includes the closure of central reservations, permanent bus lanes on Barrhead Road and the introduction of stone paving, seating and drainage ponds to improve the environment.

A segregated cycle route on Brockburn Road will also be integrated within the new arrangement, with design work funded by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Yikes! Looks like a Cities Skylines amateur creation.

The roundabout ain't the danger, its the cars. When are we going to realise in this city.

Looks quite straight forward, assuming it has intelligent efficient flow and phasing and no ridiculous phased pedestrian ‘green man’ when noone even crossing. Its not rocket science. No point in bus lanes if just merges into the main chaos. I hope the works can be done in small phases outwith busy periods

Introduction of seating? Nothing beats sitting on a new bench watching traffic crawling by. Cars will just sit across the junction (like they do with the current roundabout design) rendering the lights etc.. completely pointless

#6 cameras to catch those motorists blocking the junction? On a roundabout they cannot be fined as it's not an offence.

The roundabout is terrible because it’s too big. So they’re making something even bigger?. I’m really glad I don’t live nearby. Less lanes always! I’m a motorist but would rather wait 30 seconds longer somewhere pleasant for everyone than zoom through a big Junction that has completely ruined any semblance of a residential area due to it being massive road everywhere.

a twin junction was my idea to alleviate the Lethaby Triangle with primary school solution (a road cutting across that current triangle is quite a disasterous thing and wanting to survive via past consultation. geez). But, hey! Great to see something of the likes of my idea be spawned here. It's not quite my idea: zoom out on satellite panning and you'll see it's actually the Victorian urban grain save the church taking one of its edges as a false curve deriving the current perversion of traffic flowS to pass by the PS main entrance - To & Fro. Glasgow won't won't to play good guy there as well - that's pity! Anyway, well done Glasgow for utilising the thought at least.

It's two T-junctions we're needing finally realised at the horrendous split roads going on at the high rise corner in Mt Florida - the crooked kerbstones around the church (and starting from garage) there creating the unwanted S-curving have fooled us for decades!

Jeezo. Great stuff - two junctions to be gridlocked by incompetent and/or selfish drivers. Whoop! Whoop! I intend to spend a few days acquiring COPD by simply sitting on those benches breathing in the fumes of the gridlocked traffic. I'll also enjoy observing the chaos as drivers are baffled by which lane they need to choose/be in to traverse the junctions (plural) without even the option of just going round the roundabout until they reach the correct exit as they can do now. Unless, of course, this proposal is a money-making project for GCC with money to be generated from the fine being issued to those blocking the junctions? If that's the intention this will be a HUGE money maker1 I hope the funds are used to compensate the locals for the chaos/pollution this 'initiative' will create.
