Perthshire Ploughman's cottage births a modern rural home

A ruinous Ploughman's Cottage in Doune will be stabilised and repaired to provide a stone frontage for a contemporary family home.

Deanston Farm is located on a rural site a mile west of the town with farm buildings including a dairy and steading subject to separate residential development.

Mallett Construction will add to this developing cluster of dwellings by rescuing a ruinous cottage to the south as the basis for a modern four-bedroom home. In a materials statement, the applicant wrote: "In this proposal, we aim to create a harmonious connection between the contemporary design elements and the historical significance of the stone ruin.

"For the walls, we have chosen locally sourced stained timber panelling. This choice not only provides a warm and natural aesthetic but also pays homage to the traditional craftsmanship seen in the original stone ruin. The rich texture and earthy tones of the timber create a visual link between the past and the present, enhancing the overall character of the site."

Intended to give the appearance of a new structure emerging from the old the home will sit under a roof of standing seam zinc.

As they are retaining the best part of three ruinous house walls, does this mean that it is no longer VAT exempt ?
