Dallas Dhu creative cluster to marry health, food security & design

A drop-in exhibition hosted by Moray Council later this month will set out initial design concepts for an innovative housing initiative at Dallas Dhu, south of Forres.

Combining 24 traditional homes and 20 self-build plots, part of a broader £7.5m housing investment across the region, the creative cluster is being led by Fraser/Livingstone Architects to establish a mixed neighbourhood of accessible and affordable accommodation suitable for architects, designers and craftspeople.

Robin Livingstone of Fraser/Livingstone said: “We’re keen to understand the qualities of the existing site and surroundings and what we can incorporate that would help to create a rich new mixed-design neighbourhood that forms a sensitive and appropriate edge to the beautiful rural setting.

“At the event, we will be exploring themes that include the creation of new routes and existing connections for pedestrians and cyclists, access to new shared amenity space, the protection of existing biodiversity, and ideas for sustainable, natural materials for the new homes and the wider public realm and landscaping.”

Delivered in partnership with the Altyre Estate, Grampian Housing Association and the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) the project emphasises multi-functional outdoor space suitable for food growing and exercise.

Initial plans will be shown at Forrest Town Hall on 29 June between 15:00 and 19:00.
