Tannadice tenement infill to deliver 10 homes

Outline plans for the replacement of industrial premises at 14 Tannadice Street, Dundee, with 10 flats have been prepared by G. McNab Contract Design.

A three-storey apartment block is proposed to bridge the divide between traditional tenements and social housing on the other side of the street in a change of use from light industrial to residential.

Automated retractable security gates to the street, either side of a central cycle and refuse store, would provide access to 13 parking spaces, each with an electric charging point. Roof-mounted solar panels to the south supplying supplemental energy to each home.

In a statement, the applicant wrote: "The proposed development design seeks to regenerate an existing site which no longer reflects the mostly vacant and degrading commercial buildings along this area of Tannadice Street in favour of new affordable contemporary homes to encourage future residents."

External walls are to be finished in brown/beige render with sandstone cladding to the ground floor.

The design statement actually say 'contemporary homes'. Everything about this scheme is wrong. There is nothing (in my opinion) of merit in it, perhaps other than providing a roof over heads - but surely we can do better than this. Surely.

The drawings and the design are very poor. We deserve better.

That's amazing. For all the wrong reasons. Sigh.

In hindsight I wish to alter my previous comment... it is easily one of the worst things I've seen in all my beet years...
