New flats to breathe life into forgotten Shettleston street

Vacant land facing the B-listed Shettleston Old Parish Church has been earmarked for 12 apartments under new plans prepared by Uddingston based Abode Architects.

Situated within an irregular city block dominated by playing fields the chosen design solution advances a single apartment block framing Killin Street with pend access to nine rear parking spaces and a communal amenity area.

In a dsign statement Abode wrote: "The proposals do not aim to replicate the materiality of the immediate local context but draw similarities with the dominant structures of the area, such as the B-listed church adjacent and red sandstone tenements of Shettleston Road.

"This reflects the ambition of the developments design to begin the reinstatement of the city blocks urban form and connect with remaining tenement blocks off Shettleston Road."

Formed from a mix of brick, vertical composite cladding and concrete roof tiles the upper level apartments include private balconies.

Killin St, "forgotten"? I'm sure that will come as news to the people of Shettleston and Sandyhills...
