Anniesland build to cater for rising care home demand

A 58-bed residential care home has been earmarked for Anniesland, Glasgow, under new plans submitted by Holmes Miller.

Anniesland Suites will rise at 220 Anniesland Road, partly occupied by Yarrow Recreational Club in the form of a disused bowling green and tennis courts.

Led by Morrison Community Care Group the design approach is to position the care home back from the road, accommodating a landscaped park. The L-plan care home will front this public space, with both wings framing a private courtyard to the rear.

In a strategy statement the architects wrote: "In accordance with current best practice Care Inspectorate guidance, the care home is divided into independent units, capable of being wholly independent from one another in the event of the need to isolate areas of the building for infection control.

"The ‘back of house’ accommodation is housed at the northeast corner of the building and has a separate goods lift connecting all floors, separating the ancillary functions from the resident’s accommodation."

The plans echo similar moves to erect a 66-bed care home at Anniesland Bowling Club

#1 - It is the architecture from their heyday, so what's the problem?

I much prefer the design and colour schematics of the white buildings in the site adjacent.

Look at the effort and imagination that's gone into that! Scotland's architects really do excel themselves.

Should I have a pitched roof frontage or a parapet ... I just can't make up my mind ... lets have both
