A workshop in Ullapool is to become the newest distillery in the Highlands under plans for a craft venture by Reynolds Architecture.

Rhidorroch Distillery is planned for an alleyway in the central conservation area between Shore Street and Argyle Street, encompassing a stone-built frontage dating from around 1875 and an interior timber-built store.

In a statement, the applicant wrote: "The proposed works will enhance the site and its setting by allowing a new, modern craft distillery to be formed on the footprint of a poor-quality, substandard workshop/shed.

"The building will be constructed with materials and a design that is of the highest architectural quality and workmanship. This will result in a building that provides an impressive space, and a unique visitor experience for the village."

Minor alterations are to be made to the former to provide a cafe and bar with accommodation above, while the latter is demolished to make way for a micro-distillery over two levels that will combine modern and reclaimed materials such as timber boards.

This is very good news for the village. A great additional attraction. What's more, it's a terrific gin, so what's not to like?!!

Why a flat roof? It's Ullapool, and surrounded by pitched roofs. Get a roof on it, and keep the rain out of your gin.
