Build to rent tide reaches Anniesland with plans for 123 homes

Elder & Cannon Architects are seeking planning consent for 123 build to rent apartments at 21 Herschell Street, Anniesland.

Comprising two double-banked apartment blocks of between five and seven floors, each with a dedicated entrance hall, which double as a social space.

Outdoor amenity is provided by way of communal roof gardens on the setback fifth and sixth floors, with most flats on higher levels also having access to cantilevered balconies.

In an accompanying design statement the architects wrote: “The site is seen very much as part of the Anniesland town centre, with a significant potential to benefit from and contribute to this thriving high street and residential neighbourhood.”

The development is to be delivered by Calmont Group and Mac Mic Group.

Good to see they're proposing retention of the stabby metal fence there.

Appalling interaction with the surrounding streets, and what looks like a terrible use of space on the site too. Can only assume that large semi-landscaped bit will turn into a car park at some point in the process.

I am old and like the idea of just renting a flat with no maintenance hassle. Hopefully there will be a place to have a few cans with other residents and watch the TV. Please put me down for one of the flats. My wife has passed, so I would only need a one bedroom. Thank you, Hector

@#1 Gillian and #3 Hector, I suspect you are a bit early here, as this is very early in the Planning Process - if it goes ahead at all it will be a couple of years before these flats are available.

The developers Calmont Group info@calmontgroup.com may be able to provide information but as I say they still have Planning Application hurdles to overcome before even thinking about construction, so I would probably look elsewhere for now.

#6 Thank you for being a decent human being and attempting to help others.

As for the development, could use some refinement and I don’t much like that fence either.

Anyone know what the building that is there was previously used for?

#8 was a job centre but since in Glasgow it never managed to get anyone off the bru so it was shut.

The existing building was demolished over a year ago, after it was left vacant for years. The fence in the first image is an existing fence. Hopefully it is replaced with something more palatable.

@#7 It's not the first time I've seen enquiries of this type on UR. Perhaps indicative of the ever-present need for decent city housing (and lack of Local Authority/HA availability) that potential occupiers will enquire through any route.
