Retrofit-first crusade sees a 120-year-old Glasgow school saved

A historic Glasgow school is to be turned into 49 apartments with the award of planning consent by Glasgow City Council.

Kelvin Properties and Haus Collective will move on site by late summer to begin restoration of the 120-year-old Napiershall Street School, remodelling it to provide 24 flats - including four penthouses with private terraces in a new build extension.

A further 25 new build apartments are planned for the playground. Murray Henderson, director of HAUS Collective, said: “Our development at Napiershall Street, receiving such a positive response from members of Glasgow City Council's planning committee in preserving this Victorian building and being the 'gold standard' for future applications, is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team.”

Retaining original features such as a central atrium and stairs the homes will benefit from a range of amenities including a children's play park and an expansive rooftop eyrie suitable for dining, socialising, exercise and wellness.

I was a student at this school throughout my primary school years until 1963. Very pleased to see the retention of the building in what looks to be a quality development. Looking forward to seeing the completed apartments.
