Community pavilion to return Pollokshields park to its Victorian roots
January 27 2023
A bid to transform a disused council depot at Maxwell Park in Pollokshields has been given the go-ahead by planning officers.
O'DonnellBrown Architects propose to build a 165 sq/m community pavilion on the site, restoring the park to its original Victorian entrance arrangement in the process.
Commissioned by Friends of Maxwell Park and the Pollokshields and Burgh Hall Trust the plans call for the creation of a meeting hall, bookable rooms, offices and a cafe/events space arranged around a secluded courtyard.
Clad in black stained timber and a black slate roof the pavilion is situated on the southeast corner of the park, adjacent to Pollokshields Burgh Hall.
O’DonnellBrown director Sam Brown commented: “As members of the local community, this project holds an extra level of significance for us as a practice. We hope the building and allotments will provide a valuable focal point for the local park, a place for people to gather, a place to meet.”
A start on-site is expected to be made early in 2024.
