Mothballed Clydeside hotel plan brushed off for the arrival of Motto by Hilton

Dormant plans to erect a Clydeside hotel tower have been rekindled with confirmation that hotel operator Motto by Hilton has agreed to operate the venue in a franchise agreement with Silk Property Group.

First broached by Haus Collective in 2013 the 54.5m tall tower is now expected to open in autumn 2024 as a 186-room hotel in the brand's UK debut.

The urban destination is billed as a lifestyle option for travellers wishing access to social spaces, a restaurant and a bar in addition to a place to sleep and will cater to large groups through features such as multiple connecting rooms.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development, EMEA at Hilton, said, “The hotel will cater to a range of guests, whether travelling for work or play, solo or in a group, with innovative new features such as multi-use group spaces and multiple connecting rooms. It will give guests the freedom and flexibility to customise their stay in this celebrated Scottish city – and will pave the way for future properties in the UK as we grow the Motto by Hilton brand into vibrant city locations.”

Interiors will adopt Art Nouveau trappings in its Mackintosh-inspired spaces with uninterrupted views across the River Clyde.

Hilton's arrival follows the rescue of another stalled block next door by Virgin Hotels, also owned by Silk.

Let’s hope it’s built quicker and of better quality than its neighbouring hotel. They have made a right pigs ear of the Virgin

Each image shows a different design - which one is being built?

The right spot for something of greater height, hopefully GCC Planning Applications Committee don't chop stories off it as per.

It's a crime for what has happened to the Glasgow waterfront. It just speaks of capitalism and greed, rather than civic architecture and urban planning. It's all too late now, a total embarrassment!

Agree totally with #5. Pedestrian, banal, uninspired. Look at Barcelona and weep
