St Andrews West set to break ground
August 29 2022
A major residential expansion of St Andrews is set to get underway this September following the receipt of planning consent from Fife Council for the first phase of housing.
St Andrews West is described as an ‘exemplar new urban development’ and comprise part of a broader masterplan that will ultimately constitute up to 900 homes along with a university, business and employment land.
Designed by Studio LBA, phase 1 comprises the first 38 of 96 units - including a mix of terraced, semi-detached housing, flats and maisonettes. Incorporating air source heat pumps, biodiverse landscaping the project aims to reduce energy consumption through high levels of insulation and air-tightness.
Developed by Headon and S1 Developments St Andrews West promises to work with the historic fabric of the Fife town.
Joe Headon, director at Headon S1 St Andrews West, said: “This first phase aims to deliver an exemplar new urban development, firmly bedded in the rich history of the town and with sustainability at its very heart. Whilst being contemporary in design, we are conscious of the obvious sensitivities of placing a new development in such a historic town and have taken considerable care to design it accordingly.”
Employing shared streets, dedicated cycle lanes and connections to wider public transport networks will aim to encourage sustainable travel. In addition, a central green corridor and active travel route running through the site aims to connect neighbourhoods.
The blind will soon get the message when they are huckled.
