Prestwick Educational Campus is handed over

South Ayrshire Council has taken possession of Prestwick Educational Campus following its handover by Hub South West Scotland.

The Sherwood Road facility has been built on the site of the existing Glenburn Primary School, whose pupils will be amalgamated with the nearby St Ninian's Primary alongside a new early years centre and nursery.

Delivered by Morgan Sindall with BDP, Capita and Gardiner & Theobald the campus consists of 22 classrooms and multi-purpose rooms powered by roof-mounted solar panels and air source heat pumps.

Lindsey Mitchell, architect director at BDP Glasgow Studio, said: “The design celebrates the identity of both of the primary schools and the shared space will help bring together each of the school communities.

“We aimed to create something authentic for the community that will be inclusive, welcoming and provide a platform for contemporary learning and teaching. The buildings present a positive, community-facing frontage that will provide a strong sense of arrival to all pupils, staff and visitors regardless of whether they are using the facilities, teaching or learning at the campus.”

Other facilities include a sports hall, allotments and sensory gardens.

If you have to label the main entrance, the Architecture isn't doing its job

Some good details -- but overall trying too hard.

What is the issue of the jumbo steps facing a wall -- picture 3 -- packed lunch area squeezed in at the last minute?

#6 It looks like it is facing a movable partition - probably opens up as some form of performance/assembly space.

#5 It's a strange one because the entrance is pretty obvious, for a modern building. It almost looks as if they thought signage should go there and put that as placeholder text and never went back to decide what it should say.

The signage really is baffling. Front door possibly fair enough but I'm pretty worried about what it says above the back door!
