Musselburgh food & drink hub cleared for 2023 start

Queen Margaret University has appointed Oberlanders, WSP, Currie & Brown and Civic Engineers to bring forward a food and drink research base at its Musselburgh campus.

The Edinburgh Innovation Hub will marry serviced laboratories and office space in pursuit of greater innovation centred on health and wellbeing.

Norman Hampshire, leader of East Lothian Council, said: “The appointment of the design team is a significant milestone. This is a very exciting project, with great potential, as it will build on East Lothian’s title of Scotland’s Food & Drink County and help us properly support research, innovation and growth in this important sector.

“As we move into the recovery phase of the pandemic and look ahead, this is a tremendous opportunity for East Lothian as it will be a project which can provide a boost in terms of jobs, skills and business development. I look forward to seeing the work of the preliminary design team progress.”

Construction is expected to commence next summer for completion in 2025.
