Ayr United boosts capacity with a new north stand

Ayr United is boosting capacity at its Somerset Park ground with plans to build a new north stand under a cantilevered roof.

Delivered by Ashleigh and Denham Youd the works would provide additional covered seating at the north terrace while introducing an improved hospitality offering and match day experience for fans and staff.

Sitting below a cantilevered structural roof canopy the public-facing elements of the stand would be finished in red brick with blockwork and metal cladding used elsewhere. Black sheet metal is used to define the new entrance which spells out AUFC in white glazed brick.

In a planning statement, Denham Youd wrote: "The main stand at Somerset Park was designed by the much celebrated, architect and engineer of football stadiums Archibald Leitch. We have tried to be mindful of this in our design."

Powered by low carbon air source heat pumps the expansion will increase total stand capacity to 748, including a wheelchair seating zone, retained standing zone and 206 cushioned hospitality places.
