Edinburgh aparthotel to cater for the resumption of business travel

City of Edinburgh Council planners has granted consent for a 55-room aparthotel within the B-listed Forth House (pictured) on Forth Street and the adjoining Playfair House fronting Broughton Street Lane.

Supercity Aparthotels will convert the office space to include a mix of rooms and an associated lounge, gym and reception area for business travellers and extended stay guests.

The historic frontage will be retained as part of the works with the most obvious interventions taking place to the rear with Playfair House stripped back to its superstructure to allow the application of a new stone and precast concrete skin.

Roger Walters, chairman of Supercity Aparthotels said: “We are delighted that our aparthotel operation has been approved by the committee, which will preserve the fabulous Forth House. This is an excellent location for our first operation in Edinburgh, lying close to the busy city centre and will also serve to benefit the community through reducing movements to and from the building than is currently the case."

ISA Architects are leading design work on the development.
