Waterfront distillery to rise on the shores of the Dornoch Firth

Plans for a new Highland distillery have taken shape with the submission of proposals for a new production facility on the shores of the Dornoch Firth.

Following up an extensive series of public consultations the plans by Michael Laird Architects and the Midfearn Distillery Company Ltd include a bottling centre and associated warehouses.

To prevent discharges into the marine environment all wastewater will be stored in a tank farm and collected by tanker around four times a week for off-site disposal.

Ina statement The Paul Hogarth Company wrote: "The distillery building is based on a raised podium to conceal the required process equipment. On top of this podium is a steel and glass structure providing transparency to showcase stills and other distilling equipment. The roof layout has been designed such that it mimics the local hilly landscape and provides an identity to the building."

The project team includes Blyth & Blyth, Scott Hobbs Planning, Allen Associates and ITPEnergised.
