Assisted living homes break new ground in Dundee

Campion Homes has been appointed by Blackwood Housing and Care to deliver a £17.5m assisted living development in Charleston, Dundee.

A mix of flats and homes designed are planned for seven separate sites at Liff Place, Gourdie Place, Gourdie Crescent, Charleston Rod, Invercraig Road and Buttar’s Road in the largest project to be undertaken by Blackwood to date.

Each property will adopt the Blackwood House model developed in partnership with Lewis and Hickey Architects including features such as barrier-free movement in core living areas.

The adaptable design also permits future lift access as well as automated and digital care systems to enable residents to live independently for longer. The same model has previously been rolled out at Glamis Road in Dundee and Helenvale in the east end of Glasgow.

Simon Fitzpatrick, Care Development & Commercial Director with Blackwood, said: “For perspective, the number of homes is almost half of Dundee City Council’s total waiting list for adapted accommodation. This is massive for the city.”

Work should get underway next month for completion by the end of 2023.
