Glasgow jeweller sets up shop on Buchanan Street

A Glasgow based jeweller and watchmaker has set out plans to create a flagship showroom and workshop within the B-listed Rowan House on Buchanan Street after taking out a 15-year lease.

Laing's, which currently occupies the second and third-floor office space, proposes to invest £5m to transform the art-deco styled ground and first floor of the building into a shop window to showcase its work.

This will allow three existing showrooms in the Argyle Arcade to be consolidated into one 34,468sq/ft location, unifying office, retail and workshop operations.

Managing director Stuart McDowell said: “The centrepiece of this investment plan is our new flagship showroom in Glasgow, where we’ll be bringing Laings to the forefront while creating unique, immersive experiences for our clients."

Plans call for the basement level to provide additional office space with the second floor to house a dedicated watch workshop. The fifth floor will house a dedicated hospitality space.

The renovation works are to be carried out by Royal London Mutual Assurance with David Narro Associates.
