Canalside Ruchill industrial works to provide 41 homes

A canalside industrial works, latterly in use as office space, is to be converted into 39 apartments.

The Quadrangle at 57 Ruchill Street has been taken on by LAR Projects with landowner Panther Developments to subdivide the floor space to provide a mix of one to four-bed flats ranging in size from 57 to 179sq/m.

Interventions will include the restoration of brick facades and the introduction of attic dormers to maximise the available footprint.

A separate outhouse will provide a further two semi-detached dwellings.

The remainder of the site will be cleared of outbuildings to make provision for a 64-space car park.

Unless you own Uber shares -- why would you want to stop people having access to personal transport?

There might be an argument to reduce the use of personal transport but it is part of the transport mix.

All the chat about car free developments is just developers trying to save money -- wrapped up in a hipster parcel but it is still the developer trying to increase the margin at the expense of the surrounding public realm.

Not good.

Given the trend towards demolition -- even listed buildings -- good to see someone attempt a conversion.

Hopefully the build does it justice.
