Off-site construction to fast track Dundee homes

Discovery Homes with Voigt Architects have announced plans for 17 homes at the former St Matthews School site at Tranent Grove, Dundee.

Phase one of a larger development of 64 houses the energy-efficient and affordable homes employ off-site construction methods to keep costs down and quality up.

The innovative construction method permits houses to be made wind and watertight within as little as a week.

Jonathan Reeve, director and architect from Voigt Architects commented: “Respecting the existing greenspaces and key public pathways and routes to the existing park were the central key consideration on the development, and it is hoped the proposal will enhance the setting.

"It is hoped that these houses will be exceptionally energy-efficient and will help to create a quality new housing development, complementing the overall improvement works in Whitfield.”

A chequered history saw the site initially form part of the Whitfield Development of 'Skarne' blocks from the 1960s, later demolished in the 90s to make way for a school - which was subsequently demolished in 2019 as part of the consolidation of education in the city.

Subject to planning consent work should begin later in 2022 for delivery into early 2023.
