New flats plan for Crumbling B-listed Calton warehouse

A disused warehouse in Calton, Glasgow, is set for renewal under plans to provide seven flats over four levels above ground floor commercial space.

Barham Glen Architects have been appointed by CHM Developments to build on a consented 2016 proposal for the B-listed building at 202-204 Hunter Street, by introducing an additional flat in the roof space.

Works will include new natural slate roofs throughout with double-glazed sash and case windows installed in new external wall openings in a former lift shaft and attic roof lights and a gable skew and chimney head will be rebuilt.

A timber-gated former cart entrance will be blocked off to provide direct access to all flats and the commercial unit.

Built as a tenement and store by architect John Gordon in 1902 the red ashlar frontage includes a large sculptured panel depicting emblems reflecting the building's use as a potato and grain store. The south-facing gable is composed of blank brick and retains a large ghost sign.
