Former Ratho cement works earmarked for 300 homes

Construction giant Tarmac has shared proposals to transform a former cement works and surrounding countryside to the west of Bird Road, Ratho, into a residential-led mixed-use development.

Bairdview is described as a sustainable extension to the existing village west of Edinburgh, ushering in a fully integrated neighbourhood and entrance from the adjacent M8.

Extending Ratho to the north of the Union Canal the 56-acre 20-minute neighbourhood will host around 300 homes alongside a 60-bed care home and retirement homes as well as supporting community and commercial facilities.

A Tarmac representative said: "These proposals will greatly assist in the regeneration and expansion of this part of the city, and we are consulting extensively to ensure that people from across the local area have an opportunity to input their views and shape our ambitious proposals."

Yeoman McAllister Architects and representatives of the development team will be available tomorrow between 16:00 and 20:00 to answer questions during the digital consultation before an application for planning permission in principle is made.

A landscape belt will help screen the development from the M8

Yip, nothing says 'home' like M8 spur!!!
Entire development serviced off a country lane.
20 minute development? That's likely how long you will wait at 8:00am to get out of the estate onto the road to drive to Edinburgh!

Someone needs to tell the writers of the plot plan the difference between "principle" and "principal".

Assume this includes the MIMIMUM 35% / 105 affordable living houses as per 2030 Edinburgh City Plan.
