Milngavie early years centre opens up

Hub West Scotland has opened the doors to a new early years centre in Milngavie, one of three such facilities planned for East Dunbartonshire as part of an expansion of childcare services.

Oakburn Early Years Centre has a capacity for 101 2-5-year-olds and offers a range of playrooms wrapped around an internal courtyard that extends beyond the boundaries of the building as well as a mezzanine level with access to a chute to the lower level.

Delivered by Holmes Miller architects with Robertson Construction the centre is built on the site of St Joseph's Primary School and is designed around children with an 'experience space' lined with slatted timber cladding casting a play of light below a polycarbonate roof and carrying children's voices throughout.

The timber kit construction includes tactile cement panel boards with a steel portal frame extending beyond the building edge to create a sheltered outdoor space.

Two other early years centres at Lairdsland and Bearsden will be unveiled over the coming weeks.

It reminds me a little of these poultry broiler barns.

Interesting concept, is there any actual outdoor space though?

Have they got the drawings mixed up -- No.3 does not appear to be consistent with the other two.

No mention of the cost -- hopefully it was cheap because that is how it looks.

Although to be fair -- great to see some undercover play space.

Something for schools to copy.
So good idea -- just needs more detailing and subtlety.
